Co –written with rocker Patti Smith, Sam Shepard’s COWBOY MOUTH’s thematic focus is on characters who journey in search of an extraordinary “star”, a search for a ‘rock ‘n roll saviour with a cowboy mouth” who can vicariously save them.
COWBOY MOUTH is a profound metaphor for contemporary life. The play brilliantly explores the paradoxical need for both individuality and belonging, the paradoxical desires for self and community, for freedom and roots, for escape and family.
Pulitzer Prize Winner, Sam Shepard (BURIED CHILD, A LIE OF THE MIND), is considered one of America’s greatest playwrights. Patti Smith (“Horses”) is a poet whose energy and vision found its voice in powerful rock ‘n roll culture.
In 2005 Patti Smith was named a Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture and she received the Woman of Valor Award at the ROCKRGRL Music Conference, marking the 30th Anniversary of the release of “Horses.”
In 2007 she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
